'This dog is at peace'

Last fall, a little after Naima (formerly Ginger) was adopted, we received this photo of her, with the words, "This dog is at peace."

Naima was sweet and friendly but had inexplicably spent five long months at the shelter.

We thought that the photo looked just like a Christmas card, so we are sharing it on Christmas 2020 to remind us how hopes and dreams do come true.

Lily has been through a lot she is still sweet as can be

***UPDATE: ADOPTED!***Lily is a gorgeous white boxer who came to us very pregnant — she had a rough pregnancy but delivered 6 big, healthy pups, all adopted.

Lily was a great mama and her pups all went to loving homes. But Lily had a mammary tumor that needed to be removed after her puppies were weaned and adopted. After a local vet did a chest X-ray and determined no metastases, Lily underwent surgery to remove the existing mass, and she has been recovering with us and is now ready to be adopted.

Lily is about 5 years old and very gentle. She has no hearing issues that we can tell. We all have grown to love Lily so we are looking for an amazing adopter/family who will pamper her the rest of her life.

Because of her X-ray and surgery, Lily’s veterinary expenses exceeded even normal costs associated with a canine pregnancy, so we are hoping to raise a little money to help with the cost incurred.

We’ve had to do more virtual fundraising than normal this year because our in-person fundraisers had to be canceled. Every little bit helps.

Here's Lily's profile on Petfinder.com

Angie's family gave her the gift of time to adjust

Beautiful Angie was adopted from our shelter in August. Although she is smiling now, Angie had a bit of a rough start, her new family told us — she was incredibly anxious about being in a new environment with new people and spent most of her time the first week just pacing.

Instead of giving up on this sweet shepherd, her family gave her the time and space and love to decompress after the stress that follows dogs when they land in shelters.

Her family says that Angie is doing so much better now.

"She is so sweet and loving. When she wants attention, she comes right up to you and lays her head on you until you pet her.

"We live on a quiet lane that is great for walks, and she loves going to a local park that has a good walking trail. She loves meeting new people and thinks everyone she meets is her new best friend.

"She's becoming friends with another German Shepherd named Bella that we sometimes watch.

"We are so happy that we adopted her. She has become a great addition to our family."

We are so happy that you adopted Angie from the Clinton County Humane Society and gave her the room to settle in! Thank you!

Thank you for helping with Sebastian's treatment!

Sebastian is a gorgeous malamute who was released to the dog pound with a female pitbull, Luna. They both landed at the Clinton County Humane Society.

Unfortunately, Sebastian tested positive for heartworm and requires expensive and time-consuming treatment. Our shelter, which is funded solely by private donations and with volunteer hours, asked for help paying for Sebastian's veterinary care, which will total around $800.

After posting on Facebook about Sebastian, our supporters gave $1,185 just with the online fund-raiser!

And Sebastian HAS BEEN ADOPTED! YAY!

Thank you, Lila and Austin!

Eight-year-old twins Lila and Austin used their own allowance to bring some very useful items to our shelter — as well as a monetary donation. We are grateful for their generous hearts! ❤️❤️

After seeing a commercial for a national organization, Lila and Austin decided they would help local pets with their money.

They were accompanied by their mom and their neighbor who is a longtime volunteer at the shelter.

'A great way to honor him'

In memory of Jonathan Grayson, who died at age 9 in an accident in 2010, his family donates generously each year to our shelter, where Jonathan had adopted his canine best buddy, Elvis.

Jonathan would have turned 20 years old in September of this year. 💙

His mom said, "Jonathan felt very strongly about taking care of animals in need. He would want us to do this every year. It's a great way to honor him."

We always appreciate his family's thoughtfulness, and we are grateful that Elvis provided joy and companionship to Jonathan during his young life.

An update from adorable Eli's new family:

Thank you for adopting Eli from the Clinton County Humane Society!

Butterscotch is a cuddlebug

Butterscotch was adopted Sept. 6, and we received this update from her family:

"We adopted Butterscotch yesterday, and as a quick update, she's made herself right at home. We have named her Olive. She is an absolute cuddlebug. Introductions with her brother, Stanlee (cat), and sister, Gracie (dog) are also going well. They both love her. She on the other hand, is still trying to figure them out. She growls when they get close and they back up looking so confused. LOL. They listen well though and keep a good distance when she wants it. Though timid at shelter, she will probably rule the roost her ... and we just love her 💓💗 She is spoiled rotten already."

'We've very much fallen in love with her'

"Just wanted to give you a quick update on Tilly. We're definitely keeping her! She is a really good pup and we've very much fallen in love with her in just this short week. She was already potty-trained and sleeps well throughout the night. No chewing! No shedding!

"She gets along fine with our much larger dog and our same-sized cat. They are not BFFs by any means, but are fine hanging out together and Tilly and Mil (the cat) will occasionally play a bit.
"We're so glad we found her! Thanks again."

Enjoying the local dog park

Bentley, a dachshund-Labrador, was adopted in 2018 from the Clinton County Humane Society as a puppy, and he spent Sunday afternoon with his brother Nova, also adopted from the shelter, at the dog park in Wilmington, Ohio. He is loved and a valued member of such a caring family!

Bentley was part of a litter with shelter names all starting with D, in late April and early May 2018. If you adopted one of his littermates, his family would love to compare notes about personalities! Check out the 9/7/20 post on Facebook.

Ace is truly missed by his family

In memory of Ace, who had been found years ago in a culvert as a puppy and who died in late July, his family made a very generous donation to our shelter, and we are extremely grateful.

They have always been supportive of the Clinton County Humane Society and other animal organizations, and Ace was one lucky dog — he lived all his days in comfort, feeling love and appreciation, and getting walks around his neighborhood.

Ace was 8 pounds when he was adopted but grew into a big boy, and he enjoyed the best pieces of steak, comfy couches and beds, a "gazillion" toys, and trips to wineries (one of the photos is from a winery vacation).

His family says they spoiled him to the core but always hoped he was happy with his life. Judging by his smile, we are certain he was!

Thank you for adopting Ace from our shelter and changing his life forever!

Kali was adopted after two years of shelter life

This beautiful adopted dog has been captured in a beautiful photograph — she hit the adoption lottery after waiting such a long time.

Yay! Pink finally got adopted!

Pink was listed on Petfinder.com on July 18, 2019. A year and a day later, on July 19, she finally found a home! And boy, is she making up for lost time.
We are overwhelmed with gratitude seeing this sweet girl have the life she deserves!
Her new family tells us: "She loves to take rides in car and sleep in her new bed. She spends a big part of her days sleeping and looking outside. She only barks if someone comes to doors. She is such a good girl, it is hard to believe she spent a year in animal shelter. She is a wonderful dog and great personality. Pink has found a family that loves her and appreciates her."

Thank you for the donation, Dr. Lovano!

A big thank-you to Dr. Rachel Lovano (right), general surgeon at Clinton Memorial Hospital in Wilmington, for her $250 donation to the shelter, received by one of our dedicated volunteers, Sharon Griffith (left). Dr. Lovano’s donation came from a “special project.” She is the pet parent of two pit bulls.

Sammy loves his human and his cat tree

When we found out that her name is samantha and his is sammy, we new it was meant to be! He was very timid when we first brought him home, but he is warming up. He loves her and his new cat tree. My sister is so happy to have him!"

Remember Ace and his adventures

On July 15, we received a very generous donation via PayPal in memory of in memory of Ace, a senior Australian Shepherd who had died unexpectedly that day from a tumor. Ace had been adopted from our shelter on September 20, 2018.
His people told us: "He brought so much joy to our family for the 2 years we had him."
Ace had tons of adventures and was loved wholeheartedly. We received updates about Ace traveling to many places (including Notre Dame University), dressing up for Halloween, and making snow angels in the winter.
The family's time with their beloved dog was relatively short, but it made up for lost time for Ace, who had been neglected for much of his life.
We think of the quote by author Karen Davison:
“Saving one dog will not change the world, but surely for that one dog, the world will change forever.”
