'Both dogs have hands like MMA fighters'

Mac is nearing 8 months old now, and his owner brought home another Cane Corso-mix (the black pup).

Mac's owner said, "The pup is a massive, squishy 4-month-old terror … look at those paws. Both dogs have hands like MMA fighters and are spoiled rotten, lol. Thanks so much for helping me to have the little fur family I always wanted. We couldn’t be happier!"

Thank you for adopting from the Clinton County Humane Society!

Sophie 'is such a sweet dog'

This is Sophie, who was dumped by her former owners, mid-winter, when she was pregnant.

Her pups were all adopted, and Sophie is living the sweet life now!

Her family told us, "We have had Sophie about 14 months and we wanted to let you know that she is still doing wonderfully in our home. She absolutely loves my two teenaged boys, and she's lost when they're not at home. She's a very good guard dog, always on the watch out the window in case anyone thinks they're going to come into our yard. 😊 She is such a sweet dog and we are so thankful for her. ❤️"

Thank you for adopting Sophie from the Clinton County Humane Society!

Lucy's lucky break led to her living her best life

Lucy and a younger Cane Corso named Cash were brought to the humane society at the end of 2022. Cash was adopted relatively quickly, but Lucy had to stay a long time in the shelter. Maybe it was due to her age — the vet said she was around 5 or 6, which is older for a mastiff. Whatever the reason, it was hard to watch Lucy grow depressed after being abandoned.

Her lucky break came in June, when a kind young woman came to visit Lucy and  other dogs to potentially adopt a friend for her adorable yellow Lab. She returned for Lucy, and that was the beginning of Lucy's Life of Luxury. πŸ₯°πŸ₯°

Not only does Lucy have a human and a canine buddy at home, she has canine and human cousins she gets to visit. She is a very lucky girl, and we are so happy for her!

Thank you for adopting Lucy from the Clinton County Humane Society!

This is Tater Tot, a gorgeous girl who was adopted as a puppy from our shelter a couple years ago. She is definitely living her best life, enjoying her doggie adventures.

Tater Tot's family saw our recent post about needing bleach at the shelter, so they ordered two giant containers of bleach and had it sent to us! We are so grateful.

The family also said, "Thanks for all you do and for taking care of Tater Tot before she came to us😊."

Thank YOU for adopting Tater Tot from the Clinton County Humane Society!

This puppy was such a good boy on outings, so we are thrilled he has his very own family and is part of story time! πŸ“š

We received this update from Ace's new family earlier this month:

"I wanted to check in and let you know that Ace (formerly Ari) is doing great with us! He is settling in nicely, crate training has been a breeze, but still working on that potty training, lol. We love his little personality, and we’re so happy to have him join our family! Took him to the vet this morning, he’s eating well and nice and shiny after a good scrub. πŸ˜ƒ"

From Major's human: "This is Major, my bloodhound-Lab-pittie mix. To say he’s my best friend is an understatement. He loves hiking with me and going to the barn with me to see my horses. I adopted him 7 years ago as a puppy, and he’s seen me through high school, and now I’m going into senior year of college. He and I had so much fun in 4-H and random car rides. He’s the best boy, and I cannot wait for the years to come."

Thank you for adopting Major from the Clinton County Humane Society!

All Louie needed was a chance

A wonderful local family had adopted a pup, Bailey, from us in February 2020, then another dog, Ollie, in February 2021.

Unfortunately, earlier this year, Bailey had died young of aggressive lymphoma, and Ollie was “beside himself without a playmate.”

The human parents had seen an online profile of Louie, who had been waiting five months for an adopter, and wanted to meet him.

Louie was sweet as could be but was a big Lab mix who could be a handful — he just wanted to be with people so badly. And he was strong.

Undeterred, the people said, “Well, we are used to big dogs.”

At the shelter, true to his nature, Louie, in all his excitement, was unable to calm down at the meet-and-greet, jumping up in the man's face nearly the whole time. Louie was definitely NOT on his best behavior.

The people took him home anyway.

At first Louie was calmer at home than he had been in the shelter. Then he had some potty-training issues, and he had to learn how to sit and wait for his food bowl.

Nonetheless, his new family said he was a “completely sweet goofball,” and they forged on, even though Louie is a super chewer who “shreds” the toughest BarkBox toys.

Louie’s mom told us, “I’ve only had a couple ‘what was I thinking? moments,’ but no more than any other dog I’ve gotten before. lol”

The most recent photo we received is of Louie and his buddy Ollie.

“In a hilarious turn of events, the dog that has no awareness of personal space (Ollie), who will sit on everything and everyone, now has someone who likes to sit on him.”

We are so grateful to adopters who take the dogs who may not be perfect —and who give them a chance to settle in to life outside a shelter.

Thank you for adoption Louie (and Bailey and Ollie!) from the Clinton County Humane Society!

A golden and her girls

Ginny the golden was found abandoned and underweight with overgrown nails, but she was always a ray of sunshine, even in her state of neglect.

But look at her now! πŸ₯°

It wasn’t very long until Ginny (formerly Grace) found a wonderful home with three girls who are totally in love with her!

Her family told us that she is the sweetest dog ever. “She gets daily walks, been to parades, soccer fields, parks, and of course so much love with tons of petting!!!”

Ginny has already gained weight in her new, happy life, even with the daily exercise.

We are so happy for this canine girl — and her human girls!

Thank you for adopting Ginny from the Clinton County Humane Society!

Her family said, “She is absolutely the perfect little girl. She seems only to bark when she needs to go out, she is either sleeping in bed next to me or she is sitting next to me in my chair. She is a true little snuggle bug. … I will guarantee you will never get her back from us, we are truly in love πŸ’•.”

Jane loved each and every furry friend she met

The Clinton County Humane Society would like to acknowledge a very generous donation in honor of late Alkermes employee Jane McCormick, who passed away in May.

Jane was an avid supporter with a great deal of passion for the humane society. She loved each and every furry friend she met.

Jane’s most recent rescue was Ollie, a shih tzu mix, who was the love of her life. She always kept his rough start in life at the forefront of everything she did for him, wanting to give him the life he deserved. Ollie gave Jane the unconditional love and companionship she needed as well.

With her soft heart and giving nature, Jane never missed an opportunity to support the humane society and the many animals waiting for their fur-ever homes.

The Clinton County Humane Society uses donations to spay and neuter every animal that leaves the shelter, as well as the parents of many unwanted litters.  CCHS vaccinates all animals and works with Science Diet for nutritional food.

Donations go toward all the expenses to get animals to their new homes. CCHS is proud that over the past 20 years, since the shelter started in 2023, nearly 9,500 animals have received homes.

🐾We are extremely grateful to those who honored Jane McCormick in this way.

Even old(er) dogs can benefit from a new sibling!

This update came from the family of Mina, adopted as a growing (and growing!) puppy:

"Mina has been an amazing addition to our house. She got us going to the dog park, and her big sister Ellie loves it! Ellie can't walk or run for very long, but she gets to go again and watches out for her baby sister (who is taller than her). Mina loves zoomies, naps on the couch, car rides, and giving or getting kisses."

Thank you for adopting Mina from the Clinton County Humane Society!

We love seeing this handsome guy enjoying a beach day.

Aurora has family of humans, dogs, cats, and horses

The tan cutie on the right is Capri, now known as Aurora. Her puppy brother from a litter of two was adopted pretty quickly, but Aurora had to wait many weeks in foster care. But she knew what she was doing! Aurora's wait ended up with her being adopted by a fantastic family who had also adopted from our shelter eight years ago.

Now Aurora lives with her family of humans, dogs, cats, and horses on 80 acres! And she is obviously loving being the little sister — look at her smile!

Thank you for adopting from the Clinton County Humane Society!

Moxie Moo is adjusting well in her new home

Maggie Moo was an adorable little bean of a puppy when she was rescued by the dog warden and taken in by a fantastic foster family who bottle-fed her and socialized her with both animals and people.

Still small but mighty when she was old enough to be adopted, Maggie Moo found her forever home with previous adopters.

Now named Moxie Moo (because her adoptive human sister is Maggie), Moxie is adjusting extremely well in her new home.

Moxie’s four-legged sister, Luna, who came from our shelter about nine years ago, is learning that she is stuck with her new younger sister — and is slowly learning to love her.

Moxie’s human sister, however, fell instantly in love!

Thank you for adopting from the Clinton County Humane Society!
