 The parents, children, and staff of the CCAP Early Learning Center in Wilmington collected lots of donations for the animals at our shelter during its first annual Christmas program! 🦴

On Thursday, 12/28/23, adorable puppy Noel visited the Early Learning Center to thank the girls and boys. 🐶

Noel and the children had fun, and Noel enjoyed seeing himself in multiple mirrors! 🪞

As soon as Noel got out of the vehicle, one little girl blew him a kiss! 😘

We are very grateful to the CCAP Early Learning Center for thinking of the Clinton County Humane Society this holiday season!

Stella got a heating pad for Christmas!

Stella was not all that friendly at the shelter, but she was adopted into a loving home by a wonderful owner who loves her very much.

He sent this updated picture of Stella, telling us: "Merry Christmas!🎄 She is doing great, she got a heating pad and loves it."

Kala is still 'loved beyond measure'

This is Kala, who had waited a long time for her family to find her in 2021. It is her third Christmas enjoying everything a dog deserves and being “loved beyond measure.” 🥰

Her family said, “She pretty much tolerates anything we ask of her, including wearing reindeer antlers.”

Ruthie has been a very good girl this year

Ruthie was adopted almost 12 years ago from our shelter. She got multiple presents from Santa!

Miley is living a wonderful life up north

Many of you remember Pixie because you donated to help pay for her surgery. That was Part 1 of her happily ever after.

When we took her in, she was suffering from cherry eye, a prolapse of the third eyelid gland. She was one of two puppies dumped at a kill shelter after their owner couldn’t sell them. 

The Clinton County Humane Society stepped in and brought the puppies to our facility, and eventually we found homes for both. 

Part 2 of the story is that Pixie headed up north to a 100-acre farm and is now officially a Canadian named Miley! 🇨🇦

Miley has human boys to snuggle, a comfy bed, and a whole new wardrobe fit for the queen she is! Even the family’s 11-year-old golden retriever loves Miley! 

We are so thankful to our financial supporters and to the people who give discarded animals a new lease on life!

Doc Brown will be missed tremendously

Dr. Harold Brown, who passed away Nov. 29, worked with us for more than a decade, spaying/neutering our shelter animals as well as spaying/neutering more than 3,000 community cats during our former cat clinics. 

Doc was so much more than a vet to those of us who had the privilege of working with him.  

We will miss his guidance, his goofiness, his obsession over the proper name of cat colors (if you worked with him during a cat clinic, you know), and hearing “Hey, girl” or “Hey, kid” when we walked in. 

We were lucky to have him as part of our organization and as our friend, and will miss him tremendously.

Winter reminder: Look out for cats trying to get warm

 IT IS COLD — please check your cars for “stowaways” before driving on the winter! 

Cats and kittens, especially strays or outdoor pets, seek out warm shelter in the colder months. 

When cars are left on the streets, driveways, or even easily accessible garages, cats will gravitate to the warmth. 

Sitting between the engine and hood allows them a break from the harsh weather. 

Please bang on your hood before starting your car this winter — better to scare them temporarily than to terrorize them (or worse)! 

We have heard multiple stories just this week of cats who were found in engines and wheels. 

We are grateful to Amazon Air for helping the KILN community!

The puppies love playing with these dog toys made for them by Amazon Air-KILN associates! Amazon also donated catnip toys the employees made, as well lots of pet supplies for our shelter, which is a hop, skip, and a jump from their facility!

We are thankful to them helping us help the homeless animals of our community!

Dogs love to chow down on Chow Town treats

Clinton-Massie High School students Sydni Linebaugh and Candice Campbell, along with Christian Campbell and Ryan Vert (not pictured), worked through the quarter to create a dog treat marketing project in order to fulfill one of their graduation seal requirements.

And our dogs at the Clinton County Humane Society were the lucky recipients! Thank you to these caring students and to their teacher, Andrea Winkler! 🐾💙

Memorial bricks are a thoughtful, substantial gift

Looking for a lasting, thoughtful gift? Maybe you want to memorialize a departed loved one?

Our shelter, which exists solely on private donations and thousands of volunteer hours, has been doing a memorial brick fundraiser since 2006.

Each brick purchase is acknowledged with a handsome certificate, although the physical bricks (produced by a family-owned, Ohio company) take longer to complete.

Remember to get your dog license!

If you purchase your dog’s license before January 31, 2024, it’s $14. 

After January 31, the price doubles to $28. 

Besides being required by Ohio law, a license is a lost dog’s ticket home! When your dog has its license attached to its collar, its assigned license number is all that is necessary for the dog warden to identify the dog’s owner. 

Jax is 'either sweet or absolutely crazy'

 Jax the kitten was adopted at the end of October and is now getting ready to celebrate his first Christmas.🎄He has heard rumors of Santa Paws, so he has been practicing sleeping through the night. 

His new family told us that he’s very good and so sweet.

Atlas 'was the best big brother!'

We asked to see other Rottweilers from a litter of 10 purebred pups whose first birthday is today, and we received a few updates that we are posting. 

This is Atlas. Happy birthday, Atlas!

Atlas’s family told us: “Atlas is the perfect addition to our family. We unfortunately lost our older Rottweiler shortly after adopting him. I genuinely believe he held on until he could pass his Rottweiler skills down to this pup.

“Atlas lives with four dog siblings and four cats. Nova is also a Clinton County alum!

“He is already over 100 pounds and is the sweetest puppy! Atlas also experienced his first foster puppy and was the best big brother! We are so lucky to have this boy.”

'Sir Oz is so sweet with all visitors'

This is Ozlo! Happy first birthday, Ozlo!

His family told us: “When I saw the post about this litter, I thought it was too good to be true. After losing our rottie the November prior, we knew we needed another in our life. 

“Ozzy loves to cuddle, fetch, and play hide and seek with his dad. 

“He recently got a big brother (we rescued a Shar Pei-pit mix). He and Hank will play for hours on end. 

“Sir Oz is so sweet with all visitors, especially his 2-year-old niece. 

“He truly is the best thing to come into our lives. We are so lucky to have stumbled on him and appreciate the quick process of bringing him home when adopting from Clinton County Humane Society! Thank you and happy holidays!”

Tupelo 'loves to be on adventures'

We asked to see other Rottweilers from a litter of 10 purebred pups whose first birthday is today, and we received a few updates that we will post. 

This is Tupelo Davis, one of the litter. Happy birthday, Tupelo!

His family told us: “He really is a fantastic dog! He is very social with everyone, other dogs, kids, strangers. He loves to be on adventures and truly enjoys every bit of life; swimming, hiking, training ... he is in! 

“He's a third-time training class graduate and will be going for his Canine Good Citizen certificate in January. 

“No major medical issues, eats everything, so gets GI upset periodically. He's going in to have his hips checked, precautionary, in the next few months. 

“I LOVE seeing the others ...OMG!! 

“All of mine were always rescues so I've never gotta a chance to see any of my other dogs’ siblings.”

Scarlett loves belly rubs

 This is beautiful Scarlett, who now calls Fairfield County home. Scarlett’s owner told us: “She is so sweet. She loves belly rubs and playing with her human children.”

Scarlett is celebrating her first birthday today, Dec. 7, one of 10 purebred Rottweiler pups who had come to the Clinton County Humane Society from a person who had bred them but was then unable to care for them.

“We adopted a puppy named Abe back in May and wanted to provide an update on him. We renamed him Moose, aka Moosey Man. 

“He was scared to come home with us at first but quickly became part of the family and cannot be without one of us by his side, and vice versa. 

“He’s hyper as ever and loves walks and trips to TSC, where he can pick out new toys and treats. 

“He jumps in uncontrollable excitement when one of his humans comes home and has been doing so well with stepping out of his comfort zone. 

“We just love him! Thank you for all you do.”

 This is Silo, formerly named Tiger.

Still chasing deer out of the yard

Eleven years ago, a little black nugget of a pup was adopted into his happily-ever-after home. 

This is Gizmo. He's now an elder statesman, but he's still active and has a continued love of plush toys, like his little Lambchop, pictured with him now. 🥰

His family recently updated us:

"Gizmo has been with us for over 11 years now. Aging well and loves his best friend, our daughter who is now 8. Still loves to play and chase deer out of the yard."

'He travels everywhere with us'

 A boy and his dog: Both crashed hard after having fun together. 🐾😴

It was Chase’s one-year adopt-iversary, and his family sent us this adorable picture in an update about this sweet pup. 

They told us: “That dog does not care about anything! As long as he's with his people! We love him soooo much!

“He travels everywhere with us to horse shows, goes fishing with the boys, and was even in a talent competition for his vertical jump! But most of all snuggling!”

Douglas is loving lake life!

 This is Douglas. He was adopted Oct. 9 and went on his first fishing trip with his new dad just a few weeks later. 

Douglas found his sea legs, all four of them. Then he found a comfy spot (no pun intended) for a restful puppy nap. 

We are so thrilled that Douglas has found a home where he is well loved and taken on adventures!

“Just wanted to share what Luna’s been up to since coming to her new home (last week)! She’s adjusting very well, getting along with her fur siblings, and is super smart — she knows the sit command and lets us know when she needs to go potty outside. We are so happy to have Luna as part of our family!”

'Life seems to be good' for cute Calvin

Calvin's new family told us:

“Calvin didn’t take long to settle in for the ride to his new home. He seems to be a bit apprehensive when confronted with new experiences but ate up the nonstop pets during the ride! 

“He met his human sister and brother-in-law upon arriving home. THEY BROUGHT HIM TREATS!!!!!!! (WooHoo!!!) 

“Once the initial outdoor exploration was complete, he came inside to immediately claim his spot. All toys end up on the big beanbag/comforter bed! This is different than the people bed which he also discovered is made for full-length stretched doggie sprawls! 

“He notifies us when he needs to go potty and has started out his day today with breakfast and toys! Life seems to be good!!”

Thank you to all you generous people who have ordered cat litter to be delivered or pick some up at a local store and dropped it off yourselves!! 

It’s like cat-litter Christmas!

We have lots of cats and kittens in our care (with some in foster care, and a lot waiting to get spayed/neutered), so we will be using a lot of litter as we find them all homes. 

You are always welcome to drop some cat litter off on our covered porch at 1760 Fife Ave. in Wilmington! It can be any brand, any kind.

Benny is the bestest boy

Not too long after Benny’s mom saw his picture, she hopped in the car and drove 2.5 hours from Kentucky to adopt him. Lucky for Benny, it didn’t take him long to find the best home with lots of playmates — doggie friends and grandkids.

Benny loves to burrow under the covers and sleep there all night. He often sleeps with his tongue hanging out.

When asked if he’s ready for bed, he trots right into the bedroom.

Benny went to a fall festival (you may have noticed his candy-corn bandana) and is very loved by his family. We are so happy for him and for them!

'We love her to bits'

About a year ago Stella (formerly Adele) was adopted from our shelter, and her family sent us this update about their adorable pumpkin: 

"She is the funniest and sweetest kitty! Her personality, just like her fluffy tail, is so big and she always makes us laugh. She loves to play hide and seek with us and climb on her cat tower. She is absolutely spoiled and we love her to bits. Thanks so much again for our little lady 🙂"

Goodbye, sweet girl

Angie was adopted from our facility in August 2020. 

Unfortunately, shortly after it was discovered that she had cancer, Angie’s family had to say goodbye to their gorgeous dog on October 17. They also generously made a donation to the Clinton County Humane Society in her memory. 

They told us: “Angie was so precious and brought so much joy into our lives. Our only regret is that we only got to spend three years with her. Thank you so much for letting us adopt her.”

'Both dogs have hands like MMA fighters'

Mac is nearing 8 months old now, and his owner brought home another Cane Corso-mix (the black pup). 

Mac's owner said, "The pup is a massive, squishy 4-month-old terror … look at those paws. Both dogs have hands like MMA fighters and are spoiled rotten, lol. Thanks so much for helping me to have the little fur family I always wanted. We couldn’t be happier!"
